Jerry West, the model for the National Basketball Association (NBA) emblem and an iconic American basketball player, has passed away. He died at the age of 86.

The NBA Secretariat announced the news of West's death through official channels on the 12th (local time).

West played for the Los Angeles Lakers for 14 years from 1960 to 1974, winning the championship in the 1971-1972 season.
