Lee Ri-young (left) and Heo Yun-seo are performing in the 2024 World Aquatics World Championships Artistic Swimming Women's Duet Technical Final held at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar on the 5th.

Lee Ri-young (23, Busan Swimming Federation) and Heo Yun-seo (18, Apgujeong High School) entered the top 10 in the women's artistic swimming duet technical at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships.

Lee Ri-young and Heo Yun-seo received 204.5667 points (art score 89.5000 points + performance score 115.0667 points) in the artistic swimming women's duet technical final held at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar on the 5th, placing 10th out of 12 teams.

This is Korea's best achievement in this event since the 2007 Melbourne Games, when the World Aquatics Championships divided the women's artistic swimming duet event into technical and free.

The previous highest ranking in this event was Lee Ri-young and Heo Yun-seo's 12th place in Budapest in 2022.

Broadening the view to the entire duet event, the 9th place of Yunami and Jang Yun-kyung at the 1998 Perth Games and the 9th place of Jang Yun-kyung and Kim Min-jeong at the 2001 Fukuoka Games were the highest ever results achieved by a Korean artistic swimming duet.

Entering the top 10 was a valuable achievement, but Lee Ri-young and Heo Yun-seo had expressions of disappointment after checking their scores.

Lee Ri-young and Heo Yoon-seo ranked 9th in the preliminary round on the 3rd with 232.7351 points (art score 91.2500 points + performance score 141.4851 points).

I was not satisfied with the results of the day, as my ranking dropped one step from the preliminaries and my score dropped by nearly 30 points.

Now Lee Ri-young and Heo Yoon-seo prepare for the duet free preliminaries on the 7th.

Their goal is to participate in the Paris Olympics.

Since the sisters Park Hyun-sun and Park Hyun-ha at the 2012 London Games, no Korean artistic swimmer has competed in the Olympic finals.

Heo Yun-seo, who ranked 6th in the solo free at last year's Fukuoka World Championships, and Lee Ri-young, who ranked 9th in the solo technical, did not participate in the solo event at the Doha Games in order to focus on qualifying for the Paris Olympics.

Solo competition is not an official Olympic event.

18 teams will participate in the artistic swimming duet competition at the Paris Olympics.

The 10 countries that qualified for the team event and the 5 teams that won the Continental Championships will receive the right to participate first, and the remaining 3 tickets will be distributed according to the results of the Doha World Championships.

Korean Artistic Swimming's bid to participate in the Olympic team event has already been thwarted.

Lee Ri-young and Heo Yoon-seo must improve their rankings by getting the highest score possible in the duet free competition in this competition, and then watch the results of other countries' team competitions.

In order to qualify for the Paris Olympics, the two must be among the top three among countries that cannot participate in the team event, so they also need luck.

In the women's duet technical final that day, Chinese twin sisters Wang Liuyi and Wang Chenyi won with 266.0484 points.

Wang Liuyi and Wang Chenyi won the gold medal at the 2022 Budapest Games, but failed to stand on the podium in Fukuoka last year, finishing in fourth place.

The two succeeded in regaining the summit after two years.

Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe came in second place with 259.5601 points, giving Great Britain its first medal at the Women's Duet Technical World Championships.

Alyssa Osozina and Iris Tio (Spain) placed third with 258.0333 points and won bronze medals for the second time in a row. 19가이드03
