Son Heung-min (31, Tottenham) has praised Tottenham manager Enzi Postecoglou (58).
In an interview with 'TNT Sports' on Wednesday (June 12), Son did not hide his affection for Postecoglou. "I love him," he said, "He gets angry sometimes and makes a lot of noise when he is not satisfied. There is discipline and a lot of demands, but that's also something I value. I want to be better for Postecoglou, I want to play the kind of football he wants," he said.
"I've been with him for 10 months, but I'm still learning a lot, both football-wise and human-wise," he added.
Tottenham signed Postecoglou to a four-year contract just before the season. He is the EPL's first Australian-born manager.
Postecoglou has been in charge of Celtic since 2021 and has won the Scottish Premier League and Scottish League Cup since his arrival. This season, he completed the 'domestic trifecta' by winning the league, Scottish League Cup, and FA Cup. It was the second consecutive season of unwavering leadership and results.
Postecoglou also has experience as a national team coach. His results were just as good. In 2015, he led the Socceroos to victory at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup. They defeated Uli Stielike's South Korea in the final to take the title.
Postecoglou, who brought Oh to Celtic in the winter transfer window, is now coaching Son Heung-min.
Postecoglou is also a big fan of Son Heung-min. "He has a high level of expectation that he always has to be the best, no matter who he plays against or what kind of game he plays," he recently told Football London. "It's really hard to do that," he marveled, adding, "He's already achieved so much that it would be easier for him to be complacent, both as a person and as a player. But he tries to be at the highest level possible every time he plays, and when you look at his football, his effort, his leadership, he's a player that encompasses everything," he said, giving him a thumbs-up.
Meanwhile, Heung-min Son will be looking to record his third career 10-goal, 10-assist regular-season record when he takes on Newcastle at St. James' Park in Newcastle upon Tyne in the 33rd round of the EPL on Nov. 13.
With a 'big four' target for next season's UEFA Champions League, Spurs are fourth in the EPL with 18 wins, six draws and seven losses (60 points, 20 goals for) and a goal difference advantage over Aston Villa (60 points, 17 goals for), who have played one more game.
Tottenham need a win against Newcastle to close the gap on Villa.
Son Heung-min has fond memories against Newcastle. He scored a penalty and provided two assists in Tottenham's 4-1 win over Newcastle last December. He was involved in three of the four goals.
His performance helped Tottenham get out of a one-draw and four-loss slump. At the same time, it helped them jump from mid-table to the top. Today, Spurs are sitting in fourth place.
Heung-min's form has been scary lately. Since returning to Tottenham after the Asian Cup in early February, he has scored three goals and provided four assists in eight games.
If you extend that to the entire season, Son has 15 goals and nine assists in 28 EPL games. He is just one assist away from joining the 10-goal, 10-assist club.
If Son adds another assist against Newcastle, he will become just the sixth player in EPL history to reach the 10-goal, 10-assist club three times. Previously, Wayne Rooney (five times), Eric Cantona, Frank Lampard (at least four times), Didier Drogba and Mohamed Salah (at least three times) have achieved the feat.
