Shocking news. Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) Lee Kang-in could be the subject of a trade card, according to reports.
According to Italy's Il Matino on Wednesday (June 12), Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, 25, is expected to join PSG in the summer transfer market. The details of a four-year, €13 million (approx. KRW 190 million) contract have been revealed, but it has also been reported that PSG could use Lee Kang-in as a trading card to maximize Osimhen's transfer fee.
Ausimhen, who has been Napoli's main striker since December 2020, is under contract with the club until June 2025. He joined Napoli from Lille in France.
He has been a consistent performer since the 2020-2021 season, when he scored 10 goals in 24 Serie A games. In 2021-2022, he scored 14 goals (27 league games) and in 2022-2023, 26 goals (32 league games). This season, he has scored 12 goals in 19 league appearances due to a combination of injuries. He's doing his part.
Osimhen, in particular, peaked last season. He became the league's 'go-to' man and helped lead his team to their first Serie A title in 33 years. Napoli couldn't let him go, and after a courtship, he confirmed his stay.
Osimhen, who played a key role in the Serie A title, has been the subject of transfer rumors this summer. Alongside Chelsea, Manchester United and 'oil money' Saudi Arabian clubs were also in the running. Al-Hilal reportedly offered a £130 million transfer fee and a weekly wage of £1 million.
However, Osimhen rejected all offers. He chose to stay at Napoli. However, Osimhen's contract expires in 2025, and he has been strongly linked with PSG.
However, his transfer could involve Lee Kang-in.
"Napoli highly value Carlos Soler, Marco Asensio, Lee Kang-In (ideal midfielder) and Lucas Veraldo (defender)," Il Matino reports, revealing four names that could be linked with a move to Napoli.
The reason why PSG would consider a trade is to make Osimhen's transfer fee as cheap as possible.
Napoli have been keeping tabs on Lee Kang-in. During his best season in Mallorca in 2022-2023, Lee was on Napoli's radar. They considered him as a replacement for Irving Rosano (Eindhoven) and Hvitsa Kravatshelia (Napoli).
However, the Frenchman, who was being courted by a number of clubs, including Atletico Madrid at the time, was offered by PSG at the last minute and headed to Paris.
Napoli's current situation is a far cry from the 'league winner' mood of last season. After 31 league rounds, they're in seventh place. With Napoli already far from the Champions League next season, there is no reason for Lee to stay.
Napoli, who parted ways with current Italian national team coach Luciano Spalletti just before the end of the season, have fired Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri in quick succession. In February, the club hired Francesco Calzona as their "third coach" of the season, but they suffered early exits from the Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League.
PSG coach Luis Enrique is also likely to view Trattacard negatively. He showed that he trusts Asensio and Lee Kang-in by starting them in the first leg of this season's Champions League quarterfinal against Barcelona.
Enrique also praised Lee as a technically excellent player who can play in a variety of positions.
